Shower Door Installation
A shower door is one of the highest-impact bathroom upgrades you can make. We design and install frameless, semi-frameless, and framed shower enclosures using premium tempered glass and quality hardware.
A&P Glass Solutions installs and repairs shower doors across Tampa Bay. Frameless, semi-frameless, and framed options in a range of glass types and hardware finishes. We handle precise measurements and professional installation so your shower looks and functions beautifully. Free estimates.
We offer three main shower door styles: frameless (clean, modern, all-glass look with minimal hardware), semi-frameless (a balance of sleek design and structural support), and framed (the most economical option with a full metal frame). All options use tempered safety glass.
Every shower door installation begins with a detailed measurement of your shower opening. We account for walls that may not be perfectly plumb, tile lips, curbs, and any unique architectural features. We then work with you to select glass thickness, hardware finish (brushed nickel, chrome, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze), and any glass treatment options like protective coatings that resist water spots.
Protective glass coatings are worth considering, especially in Tampa Bay where hard water and mineral deposits build up quickly. These coatings make water bead up and sheet off instead of clinging and leaving mineral spots. Both factory-applied and post-installation options are available. They reduce cleaning frequency and keep the glass looking clear longer.
We carry hardware in five standard finishes: brushed nickel, polished chrome, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, and satin brass. During the in-home estimate, we look at your existing fixtures and recommend a finish that ties the room together. For bathrooms undergoing a full remodel, we coordinate with your contractor or designer to match the hardware specification they have selected for the rest of the space.
Choosing the Right Shower Door Style
The three main shower door styles, frameless, semi-frameless, and framed, each have practical advantages that go beyond looks. Frameless doors use thicker tempered glass panels with minimal hardware: typically a pair of hinges on one side and a handle or pull on the other. There is no metal frame around the perimeter of the glass, which creates a clean, open look that makes the bathroom feel larger. Frameless doors are the most popular upgrade we install in Tampa Bay bathroom remodels.
Semi-frameless doors have a metal frame along the top and bottom edges of the glass but not on the sides, or they frame the fixed panel while leaving the door panel frameless. This hybrid design provides more structural support than a fully frameless door at a lower price point. It is a practical choice for wider openings or heavier panels where the added frame stiffness helps the system hold alignment over time.
Framed shower doors have a complete aluminum frame around every glass panel and the door itself. They are the most economical option and use thinner glass because the frame carries the structural load. Framed doors are a solid choice when budget is a priority or for rental properties where durability under tenant use matters more than aesthetics. The metal frame channels also create a more forgiving seal around the perimeter, which can reduce water leakage compared to a frameless door where the seal depends entirely on precise glass-to-glass or glass-to-wall contact.
- Frameless: thick glass, minimal hardware, clean modern look, premium price
- Semi-frameless: partial frame for support, lower cost than frameless, clean appearance
- Framed: full metal frame, thinner glass, most economical, durable and forgiving
- Inline panels: fixed glass paired with a hinged door for wider openings
- Neo-angle enclosures: three-panel design for corner showers
- Sliding bypass doors: two panels on a track for tub-shower combos
Glass Options and Protective Coatings
All shower door glass is tempered per Florida building code, which means it has been heat-treated to be four to five times stronger than regular glass and shatters into small, rounded pieces instead of sharp shards if broken. Beyond that baseline requirement, you have choices in thickness, clarity, and surface treatment.
Clear glass is the most popular option for frameless installations because it shows off tile work and makes the shower feel open. Low-iron glass, sometimes called ultra-clear, eliminates the slight greenish tint that standard float glass has at the edges, which is noticeable on thicker 1/2-inch panels. Frosted and rain-pattern glass provide privacy for showers in shared bathrooms or master baths with open layouts where the toilet is in the same line of sight.
Protective coatings address the biggest maintenance complaint about glass shower doors: water spots and mineral buildup. Tampa Bay's water supply is high in dissolved minerals, and without a coating, water droplets dry on the glass and leave behind calcium and magnesium deposits that etch into the surface over time. ShowerGuard is a permanent ion-beam coating applied during glass manufacturing that makes the surface non-porous, so minerals cannot bond to it. EnduroShield is a liquid polymer applied after installation that fills the microscopic pores in the glass surface and creates a hydrophobic barrier. Both dramatically reduce cleaning effort. We recommend discussing coating options during the estimate so the choice can be factored into the glass order.
Shower Doors for Older Tampa Bay Homes
Tampa Bay has thousands of homes built between the 1950s and 1980s, and the bathrooms in these homes present specific challenges for shower door installation. Tile walls settle over decades, curbs shift, and nothing is perfectly square or plumb.
We account for these irregularities during our measurement process. The hardware we use includes adjustable hinges and channels that accommodate imperfect walls. The result is a door that looks straight, operates smoothly, and does not leak, even in a bathroom that has not been renovated since it was built.
